Chart: Poverty Status of Working-age Adults in Maine
In 2007, one quarter of all working-age adults with a disability were
living below the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). More than half were poor
or near-poor, which means they had incomes below 200 percent of the
FPL. The poverty rate declined from 27 to 25 percent in 2006 and 2007,
but the rate of near-poor adults with disabilities increased from 22
to 26 percent. Adults with disabilities in Maine are more than three
times as likely to live in poverty relative to adults with no disability.
Note: The Federal Poverty Level for an individual
in 2007 was $10,210 per year, or $851 per month.
